M62 travel HORROR: Lorry carrying oxygen ERUPTS into flames near Manchester

The truck exploded into flames in between junctions 21 and 22 of the M62 earlier today.

The fire has now been extinguished but the truck has been almost completely destroyed.

Highways England tweeted: “#M62 westbound between J22 #RishworthMoor & J21 #Milnrow a tanker carrying oxygen has been on fire.

“Fire brigade are continuing to damp down and the carriageway remains fully blocked at this time.

“#TrafficOfficers are implementing a closure at J22 westbound at this time.”

A fire spokesman said three crews were called to the scene.

He said: “We were called to a fire on the M62 near junction 21 on Saturday morning. On arrival crews found a HGV on fire on the westbound side of the carriageway.

“The vehicle is currently on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

“Three crews are in attendance including firefighters from Rochdale, Heywood and Littleborough.

“Two jets and four breathing apparatus are being used.”

This is a developing story, more to follow…
